Prayer: I wrote items on the chalkboard. Three items of stating who God is (all powerful, all wise,....), then three items of thanks, and three items of asking. On Saturday, I described this process to the class as I wrote them. It is my hope that class members will eventually participate in composing the prayer in English.

Weather terminology:

I used the Oxford Picture dictionary pictures from page 10.
I drew a thermometer and introduced Fahrenheit scale.
We practiced saying, reading and writing : Yesterday it was (snowing), Today it is (snowing), Tomorrow it will be (snowing).

On Saturday I took what you see below from esl.about.com. I changed the “below freezing” to “below zero” . I made the display poster sized and handout sized. We went over the poster with questions. Then I had them fill in the handouts without help, then we filled in the answers together on the poster itself. This was considerably more difficult than what we did on Monday, but it was a small and multilevel group, so individual questions were addressed better. ¨

Many of the outdoor workers are familiar with the weather report because they watch it to see if they will be working.

Song: I can see clearly now. I told them that although the song uses many weather-related words, it was really a song about hope. Thanks to Google I had some translations of key words. A Korean student told me that the translation for “disappeared” was incorrect. Evidently “missing” is not to be confused with “disappeared” in Korean.
